SlickforceGirl: Spellbinding with Princess Ayanna

In early November, SlickforceGirl made its first public appearance at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Convention in Los Angeles. We commemorated this special occasion with the release of our sixth SlickforceGirl, Ayanna. Our resident Indian Princess might be the most petite of our heroes, but consider this fair warning that looks can absolutely be deceiving. Though not much is known about Ayanna’s abilities, rumors of mysticism and magic are enough to keep us on her good side.

Collect Princess Ayanna’s Limited Edition 11×17 poster, along with our other heroes, at SaglimbeniStore.com. As with the other posters, a portion of your purchase will go to help the fight against breast cancer. Visit SlickforceGirl.com for more info!

Enjoy these behind-the-scenes images of Ayanna’s shoot taken by the amazing Joyce Park!

SlickforceStudio celebrates a landmark year in style!

Get your roll on.

When I was a kid, I loved to roller-skate. And I told myself that one day I would throw a roller-skating party with models. It just seemed like it would be, well, the awesomest party ever. Hey, a kid has to dream. Then, in high school, I put away my quads and transitioned to roller-blading. And finally, like most of us, I transitioned again, only this time into the real world, where childhood joys were locked away in a chest and relegated to memories of the past. Until now.

As my company continues to be blessed by growth and prosperity, I find it increasingly important to remind our expanding family of those childhood thrills, as proof that dream-chasers can stay connected to the wide-eyed, unjaded enthusiasm that we all possessed as children, before we learned about rules and jobs and taxes. And what better way to do that than to shut down a roller-rink for all of your friends?

This year, in conjunction with the wonderful people at Moonlight Rollerway, I opened our SlickforceStudio Christmas party up to more than just our beloved staff. We invited close friends and clients, giving us a chance to show our appreciation to those who have helped us along our journey. At first, many were nervous—not having been on a pair of skates since middle-school—but ultimately we got nearly everyone out on the floor and had the time of our lives.

We also celebrated associate photographer Christian Arias’ first magazine cover, of rising-star Ayanna Jordan for Import Tuner magazine. Her work is a testament to the talent of our team, the ever-evolving creativity of the Slickforce brand, and our growing presence in popular media.

As we close out a landmark year, one that saw our 6th ModelKamp, my first SlickforceGirl book shoot, and more than 25 magazine covers, as well as the advent of PhotoKamp, Mastering Retouching, Kardashian Konfidential and countless related campaigns, I want to say thanks to everyone who has supported us, especially you, the fans. This is my reminder to you to never stop dreaming!

Merry Christmas everyone! 🙂

Halloween Madness in Hollywood & Ayanna Jordan’s Birthday

Despite how busy we’ve been at the studio, Fall 2010 brought about many opportunities to play. SHOW Magazine hosted their 4th Annual Halloween party in Hollywood this year. I’d been busy planning the first PhotoKamp and ModelKamp 6, so I dug up my Wolverine costume that I had put together a few years back. Nearly the entire Slickforce crew came out to roam the streets of Hollywood, which made it one of the most memorable Halloweens ever for me.

Model Ayanna Jordan also celebrated her birthday at Falcon on Sunset Blvd. in October. Once again, my wonderful team showed up to help her celebrate, as well as her good friend and fellow model Nazanin Mandi.

As we begin the holiday season, here’s wishing you and your loved ones all the happiness in the universe, and remember to live every day to the fullest!

The Slickforce Crew does Las Vegas at PhotoshopWorld West!

photoshop-world-vegas-ayanna-jordan-slickforce-mastering-retouching-ipad

We just got back from PhotoshopWorld in Las Vegas last week and had a blast! We threw stunning models Esther Hanuka and Ayanna Jordan (discs 1 & 7 for Mastering Retouching fans) in the trunk of the car and drove to Sin City on a mission!

The big news at this show was that Mastering Retouching ships iPad-ready, which had many curious customers circling the booth. I also took advantage of our PSW presence by announcing the first PhotoKamp, a 2.5-day workshop for photographers and artists, on November 12-14 in Los Angeles. The pre-launch of PhotoKamp was met with overwhelming response…so much so that we are almost completely sold out less than 2 weeks from the initial announcement!

We also doubled our booth size this year from the Orlando show, which allowed us many more opportunities to meet our friends and fans, as well as many talented photographers and Photoshop artists. German wunderkind Calvin Hollywood dropped by to say hello and meet the models, and we were also blessed with the presence of PhotoshopWorld royalty Matt Kloskowski (PS genius), Dave Cuerdon (retouching legend) and Wacom guru Wes Maggio.

But, with all due respect to the talented artists we met, no one impressed me more than my beloved Slickforce team. Director of Ops Kevin Savarese, lead retoucher Joyce Park, and assistant Derek Eskridge assisted models Esther and Ayanna in educating the public on the Slickforce brand, and photographers Clint Davis and Matt Timmons graciously joined us to show their support as well. I am moved and humbled by the dedication of my team, and it motivates me even more to keep our brand growing.

HairLocs International 2010 Campaign

hair-locs-nazanin-mandi-airess-padda-ayanna-jordan-nick-saglimbeni

This week, HairLocs International launched its nationwide campaign across nearly every Niche Media title, including Ocean Drive, LA Confidential, Gotham, Hamptons, and Vegas magazines. Through a good friend of mine, Lupe Ceballos, for whom I used to photograph recording artists, I was able to bring the campaign to SlickforceStudio. We handled everything from the production to the casting—which is why you may recognize some of your favorite Slickforce superstar models in the campaign.

The shoot was incredibly fun, especially for hair-stylist Al Ingram, because we got to experiment with many ways of making hair look exciting on camera—and you all know I love amazing hair. Slickforce lead make-up artist Gaby Ramos nailed every shot in this campaign, which is even more impressive given the full spectrum of model complexions that she worked on.

Thanks to HairLocs and to the incredible Slickforce team for helping to create a beautiful campaign!
